7th CONFERENCE OF ANTIMILITARISM AND HISTORICAL MEMORY
On the 22nd of November the 7th edition of the Conference about Antimilitarism and Historical Memory is taking place at at Astra Gernika, organized by Gernika Gogoratuz, Gernikatik Mundura, Ideasur and the coordinator of Astra Gernika and in collaboration with the municipality of Gernika-Lumo.
The conference has two parts. The theme of morning session will be “Truth and Construction of Memory”, outlined by Fernando Cruz Artunduaga, coordinator of the Truth Commission in the department of Caquetá (Colombia) in his paper “The Truth from territories in Colombia. A necessary dimension for peace-building”. The morning session is concluding with the screening of the documentary “Sin minería, la vida tiene futuro” (“without mining; life has a future”), directed by Emérita Cuellar, researcher of the project “Territorios en conflicto. Estudio de Caso Tolima” (“Territories in conflict. Case study of Tolima”).
Under the heading “Demilitarization and Peace- Building” Zuriñe Rodríguez Lara is speaking about “Demilitarizing minds and social relations in the Basque Country”. Closing the session Luis Arbide González and Argi Otsoa de Txintxetru of the platform “Ongi Etorri Errefuxiatuak” (platform for sensitizing the population of Bizkaia about the drama of refugees) are presenting the documentary “La guerra empieza aquí” (“War begins here”), directed by Joseba Sanz.”
