While the five great artivist strategies – Culture Jamming, Media Activism, Social Theatre (and within this, Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed), Direct Action and Militant Research – have been a regular feature of demonstrations and camps against mercantilist fundamentalism, war and social cuts, the Assembly has been the tool par excellence; an active instrument, only not creative and often characterised by ideological confrontation: a vicious circle of opinions, reactions, replies and counter-replies. Consequently, for this article I propose an ‘effective and creative’ – in essence activist – model of assembly on the basis of social technologies: an Artivist Assembly.
