Seedbed. Women for Peace

Semillera. Mujeres por la paz

Seedbed. Women for Peace is an initiative of Gernika Gogoratuz and Gernikatik Mundura that seeks to bring together women’s organisations and feminist collectives working for peace on a local, national and global scale.

The aim is to make visible, empower and strengthen the efforts of women’s organisations and feminist grassroots groups working for peace as active agents in the non-violent transformation of conflicts on a daily, local and globally interconnected level.

BACKGROUND

The Women’s Worlds (WM) Congress is an international and interdisciplinary event that brings together women and men from different fields of academia and activism (women’s, feminist and social movements) from all over the world. The first Congress took place in 1981 in Israel, at the University of Haifa.

The most recent edition was the 14th Women’s Worlds Congress held at the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo, Mozambique, in 2022. A total of 2,256 people participated in person and 831 followed the event virtually, coming from 32 countries from four continents: Africa, America, Asia and Europe.

During the last edition, it was proposed to hold the 15th Women’s Worlds Congress in the Basque Country in the year 2026 (MM26). The proposal arises from the work that Gernika Gogoratuz has been carrying out with Mozambican women’s organisations, organisers and participants of the event, with regard to the visibility of their local contribution to peace-building.
